Did you know that your Macintosh Operating System 8.0 and above can read DOS/PC floppy disks? Simply insert your PC/DOS disk into the MAC floppy drive and you will seee a small floppy disk icon with a "DOS" on it. The files are accessible. Thus, if you are working on PC/DOS systems at home or at another school, you can simply write your files to the disk and use them on your MAC. Be sure, however, that the format you save your file in is readable by the program you are using in the MAC. Transferring graphic files are fine (e.g., JPEG and GIF), but you may have to convert other application files (e.g., word processing) to the MAC application file before using. Most applications in the MAC (ClarisWorks as one example) will read MS Word files and other program files, but sometimes the translation is less than perfect. Get into the habit of saving in rtf format in addition to the native format and you will rarely run into trouble. Unfortunately it does not work the otherway around, namely you cannot simply insert a MAC disk and expect your PC to read the directory. In fact you must be very careful because PC systems will recognize it as an unformatted disk and request a disk format. Answering yes to the prompt will destroy all the data on the disk. Write some of your files back to the PC disk in the MAC.
