Danielle

Danielle was born in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. In the same year, when she was 5 weeks old, she moved to a small town in PNG (Papua New Guinea) called Tabubal. Her house was on stilts and underneath her house she had a slide that she loved to play on. Danielle's first year of school was in 1992. She went to YWCA Tabubal Kindy school. When Danielle was about 3 or 4 years old she had a blue jeep. Danielle and one of her friends were playing near the blue jeep. All of a sudden Danielle tripped over her friend's foot and smashed her head open on the rhubarb of the jeep. (That is the front thing that sticks out). When Danielle went to the hospital she was afraid to get stitches so she screamed so loud that she forced them not to give her stitches. Instead they just put a bandage on to hold it together. She still has a scar above her left eyebrow. In January of 1995, Danielle moved to Irian Jaya, Indonesia. There she went to school at the International School of Tembagapura. Danielle's father says, "Danielle has traveled extensively throughout the world, more so than most adolescents. She has seen the pyramids, the Roman Colosseum, the Eiffel Tower, the Nile, and the ancient Greek ruins. She has traveled with lions and wildebeest and she brings these wonderful experiences with her wherever she goes".Right now Danielle is in sixth grade in Irian Jaya.

Move Over Long Fellow!

The Jungle

From far away the rain forest is still

But beneath the hallowed branches

The forest is alive

Breathing with the wind

Drinking with the rain

Sleeping with the night

Although we do not see this wonder

The creatures of the jungle do

And they cry out when the jungle is hurt

Stop hurting the jungle

So the forest may be silent once again

About the author of this poem:

Maya was born in 1989 and she grew up in New Mexico, U.S.A. and lived there for five years before moving to the Philippines. She lived in Manila for two years and Los Banous for two years. Then she and her family, Mom, Dad, and sister Soli, moved to the remote town of Kuala Kencana, Indonesia. This is Maya's third year there. Maya loves writing poetry and she has written some others including: Africa, Friends and Thank You. Maya does not stick to one subject when writing poetry but she does like to write poetry that has something to do with the jungle. Animals and people are what Maya likes to write about and she likes to write stories as well as poetry. For further reading of Maya's poetry you would have to spend a lot of money on an airplane over here because none of her poems are published [yet!] and I doubt you would do that. Some of Maya's poetry is accompanied with artwork. Maya enjoys living there and besides poetry some of Maya's hobbies are reading, collecting rocks, drawing, playing basket ball and many more. Once when Maya was little she chewed on worms! Maya is almost 12 at the moment and is in the sixth grade. Maya also has an interest in art and science and she would like to be a biogenetical scientist. Maya has moved various places and vacationed in various places and she likes to travel. Maya has a cat named Frida , after the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Maya likes to roller blade, Ice skate [when she can] , play softball and volleyball. Maya loves her family very much and thinks she has a pretty darn good life! That is all we have to say about Maya!

The Life of Derek, brought to you by Derek.

Important Events in My life:

Some time in March, I was born in British Columbia, Canada. I didn't live in Canada for very long, because in the summer of 1996 my parents told me that we were moving to Irian Jaya. When I arrived in Indonesia I met a crazy kid named Waleed. We met at a restaurant in Tembagapura. I was getting some food from the buffet when Waleed slammed into me. We started off as worst enemies, but turned out to be really good, and probably life time friends. When School started up in 1996, I met Bryce, Teddy, Pat, Matthew, and Kate in Tembagapura. After two years of living in Tembagapura I moved down to Kuala Kencana. Once again, when school started up I met some more new friends: Emma, Eamonn, Nick, Kathyrn, James, Imran, Jufri, and Linden. When 1999 rolled around, some new people come to school; my best friend Sarah R., Sarah P. and Maggie. About Me: Favorite food: Mansaf. A lot of people don't know what this is. I tried it in Egypt. Well, it sort of hard to describe. It's like a huge pile of bread, meat, rice and all sorts of stuff. Favorite Animal: Thylacine, or, the more common name, Tasmanian Tiger. Favorite Movie: Blade; it's rated R, but I've seen it soooo many times! Favorite TV channel: Mtv. It's Mtv Asia, but I guess that it's all right as long as I get to listen to music. Favorite group of people to hang out with: Waleed, Imran, Eamonn, Emma, Kathyrn, Kate and Sarah. (She moved away, but I still talk to her.) Well, that's all for now, see ya!

My Life

My name is Waleed I am 12 years old. I am your average American except for the fact that I am in the middle of the rain forest in Irian Jaya. Life for me is all right. Sure you are deprived of all the great things in life but the friends here are fantastic. My favorite sport is soccer. My favorite food is probably this Arabic food called mansaf. It's the best. I think that it is the best because you get to use your hands. It tastes just perfect. The taste is so fantastic that It doesn't matter how much you eat, you simply can't stop. My other favorite food is pizza. I really really love pizza. It is like a party food and whenever I eat it, it makes me happy. I am in the seventh grade. My life is full of stress but one day there will be no stress. I try to live my life with no regrets. So far I have no regrets. My father is from Jordan. My cousins and I all go outside at night and we play. I think that the playing is a lot of fun because for one thing we play with is fire crackers. My best friend Laith and I play with them the most. Laith is my cousin but also like a best friend. He is 18 years old but acts like a kid when you are around him alone. When I first moved to Irian Jaya I was in the mountains. I lived in a small town called Tembagapura. I met a friend there. His name was Derek. I still know him today. I also met Teddy and Nick. I still know them, as well. Derek and I were best friends when we were little; we were best friends from third grade to fifth grade. In fourth grade he had to move to Kuala Kencana. When I moved down to KK, I met a nice kid named Eamonn. I want to either play soccer when I grow up or I want to be an elite soldier or a ranger. When I finally leave this place I will miss it a lot. It really is a nice place, but after six years I will be glad to go.

Kathryn: The Best Burper In The World

Kathryn was just a normal school girl who went to a normal school and had a normal life until she moved to Irian Jaya, Indonesia, where she found out that not only could she burp but she could burp extremely loud and and also burp many tunes. Kathryn is now known as the best burper in the world and has her own burping CD that people can buy to get advice and help them to become the best carry on burper when Kathryn dies . Lucky for us some people from the Time magazine got a behind the stage interview before her concert that was not only full, but had people on the streets that couldn't get in. However, they could hear her burping because she was so loud. Here are some important events in her life time so far:

*On 30 August in 1999, she moved up to Irian Jaya. That was a very important event in her life because she had to leave all her friends and also she had never been and lived out of New Zealand before. She is still there in 2000, living life the best ever and having the most fun and getting the best education.

*Her birthday because that means she is one year older and that means that she can get her driver's licence in just a few more years to come. She was born in Hamilton, New Zealand, in Hamilton Women's Hospital in 1988.

*Her two little twin sisters were born in Hamilton's Women's Hospital in 1990, and she already had an older sister that was two years older.

*Figuring out that she could burp so loud and burp the tunes that she could

Here is an anecdote that reveals something significant about her: When she was little she was always a little terror. She would always be so loud that she would get sent out of the whenever classroom. She will always be loud andanyone is mean to her she always yells at them. Because of her loud voice she always get the blame when that other person was the one in the wrong. This happened to her when she was in third grade. Her friend said something mean to her and she yelled at her just as the teacher was coming in the room. So she had to write 100 times, "I will not yell in the classroom and I will only use inside voices." That taught her not to be so loud because she was the one that gets into trouble, not the person that really started it. "Always look on the bright side of life," is an important quotation to her. When she was little and her friends were being mean to her, she would go home to her Mum crying and tell her that her friends had been mean to her. Her mum would always say , "Always look on the bright side of life." So that is what has made her think like that and really it has worked for her. Here is quotation from one of her good friends named Maya. "She always says. 'A,' after she talks to anyone, and she always says, 'Do you reckon?'. "She would like to be known for her burping as you would have probably guessed by the quotation. She can burp "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and also she can burp the alphabet really loud. She would like to be worthy of being on the cover of the Time magazine for being the loudest burper in the world, also setting the world record for being the first female that has been able to do the burps so loud and so long and also that do not smell like her lunch. In the future Kathryn expects to be known as the best burper in the world. She also expects to be the richest person in the world, because of all the concerts she'll do and because she'll be so famous that lots of people will come to see her.

Emma

This is an article about Emma. Time got to have an interview with her, and this is what we found. Emma was born in Virginia. She already had an older brother, Adam. She stayed there until she was one; then went to live in Hawaii. Her mom was in the Navy, so the family lived on a Navy base. She went to a private preschool, and her grandma picked her up everyday after school. She lived there for about five years, in which her parents got divorced. Emma's mom was stationed at Pensacola, Florida, so they moved on. Emma's little brother, Aaron, was born there. Emma went to a gifted class for the third grade, with her best friend Mary, who came from the Philippines. After about three years, her mom was stationed to either England or Maryland, but agreed to Maryland. Before they left, her step dad got a dog for the family, which they named Harley. Harley was an abused dog and was very sad when they got him. The people Emma got him from were very mean and cruel to him. They punished him for no reason, and hit him constantly. He wasn't allowed down the hall at their house, so he would always whimper and cry when he went down Emma's hall. Emma says, "I learned how love does actually heal the heart." Eventually, with all the care they gave him, He became a great and happy dog. After they moved and got settled, Emma's mom had a baby girl, Lauren, and Emma had to finish the rest of fourth grade. She met one of her best friends named Tiffany, one of the smartest girls in school. At sixth grade, Emma and Tiffany were separated, because the system was smartest with smartest, average with average. Emma was put in average, which was really no problem, except she only had one other friend in the class, who was Jeramie. A few weeks after the start of her sixth grade school year, Emma's mom retired after fifteen years of service in the Navy. They moved to Texas for three months, living with her aunt. In total, Emma went to three different middle schools for sixth grade, counting the one in Indonesia. Her step dad had already gone to Indonesia before the rest of her family, so he didn't go with them to Texas. Tiffany, however, came to Texas for one week. Then they moved on to Indonesia, and there was when she started liking poetry. Her favorite quote is, "At one glance I love you with a thousand hearts," because she says it describes feeling and love for another. Eamonn, her friend in Middle School, says that the quote that describes her is "The person who is straight forward and honest doesn't have to worry about a faulty memory." Emma has always wanted to be known as someone famous, such as a singer. But she also has her bigger dreams, like joining the Navy. Emma loves the Navy, and can't wait to join. She also has her more calm, sweeter side. She has always loved little kids, and says she wants to adopt one when she's older. Taking care of kids has been a part of her for a very long time, so having one or working with them wouldn't pose a problem. In the end, Emma says she thinks that being on the cover of a magazine, newspaper, or a headline doesn't make you special. It's what you do in your life that makes a difference, and should make you known for.

My Web Piece (hehe)

Eamonn didn't want to move very much. He didn't want to move to Tembagapura all that much, or to Kuala Kencana, or move to Canberra, or exactly move back to Melbourne. He was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1987. In 1992 he put on his tree green jumper for the first time and left for school. Shy, but willing, he had fun and made friends. Not an outstanding student, he blended in with the rest of Antonio Park Primary School. He ascended the grades doing well, from one to two, from two to three, but midway through three, there was a shift in his life. His dad, Kent, had decided that they were going to go to Irian Jaya to work for Freeport for two years. Eamonn had no particular objection to this decision; he knew he would be back in time for fifth grade. He did know that he would miss his friends. So they packed their belongings and put their house up for sale. Arriving in Tembagapura in 1995, Eamonn settled in and surprisingly everyone welcomed him with warmth. After being there for a year, a small town was opened in the lowlands named Kuala Kencana. Being a more suitable position for his father's occupation, they moved there. Just one more year he thought. They were there for a year and Eamonn moved through fourth. But they stayed. Eamonn moved through fifth, and sixth, and seventh. And they were still there. Now starting through eighth grade Eamonn enjoys his life. One thing about him is his humour. He can sort of make people laugh, but one thing he knows how to do well is laugh. One day Eamonn was merely sitting in class and saw his brother outside skip-walking in a weird way. He laughed so hard he cried all over his desk. He has some weird ideas up in his mind. A saying that describes his mind would be; "I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ideas". Eamonn will much rather prefer thinking of new efficient ways of doing things, rather than old strange ways. He would like to be known for leadership, humour and good friendship, although he isn't too good at showing those traits. Finally, a saying that describes him, said by his Mother is, " Where's your lunch box!" This shows that he has a terrible memory!

My life

My name is Bryce. I am a boy who has lived in Indonesia for 6 years coming January 2001. I am 13 years old and do not enjoy living in a corrupted country, in an isolated town. I was born in British Columbia, Canada, in Port Hardy. When I was one I moved to Tabubil. That was the second small town I lived in (Port Hardy was the first). I lived there for six years and semi-loved it. I was sad to leave at first. After that I moved to Tembagapura. That was the third isolated town. There I lived for three years. I made many friends. Something ironical is that I have always had female teachers except for in third grade. During my stay at Tembagapura the company that worked there started on a new town. After three years in Tembagapura I moved down to the new town, now called Kuala Kencana (Koo-ola Ken-cha-na). That is where I am right now. By the way, Tembagapura and Kuala Kencana are in Indonesia. The school system here is okay. we don't get as many long weekends as you guys, but we do get 3 months worth of summer vacation. The learning is pretty good. We have all the equipment that we need. I bet you will never guess how many people go to our school (not including teachers)! We have (da da da daaa) 55 students! We also have grades preschool to eighth. I am in the eighth grade and there are three people. Two boys and one girl. I have friends in both towns, four friends in K.K. and two friends in Tembagapura. Three of the friends are in both eighth grades and three of the friends are in K.K. seventh grade. My life from there is probably going to stay level on the good side so there really is not anything left to talk about. Adios.
